- Biography
- Mr Shafi Ahmed qualified from Kings College Hospital Medical School in 1993, trained in London and obtained his specialist registration in general surgery. He was appointed as a Consultant General, Colorectal and Laparoscopic Surgeon at Barts and the London NHS trust in 2007.
He works in the Centre for Academic Surgery and has established minimal invasive colorectal surgery within the trust. He is pioneering single incision laparoscopic colorectal surgery and also works with liver surgeons to perform simultaneous laparoscopic liver and bowl resections. His main interests are colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease and the modern management of haemorrhoids.
He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer and the surgical lead for development and delivery of the undergraduate surgical curriculum at Barts and the London Medical School. He is also an educational supervisor for the Royal College of Surgeons and is actively involved in appointing, educating and training future surgeons.
He is a member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland, Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons
